Ancient Indian civilizations

India’s past had been rich, glorious and peaceful. Glorious in all aspects including wealth, knowledge, moral values, and culture. The cultural heritage of India has been a major factor in sustaining India’s prosperity through her hard times of colonialisations, battles, freedom struggle and the communal riots.

One of the world’s most ancient civilizations flourished in this country. The Indus valley civilization that constitutes the Harappa and Mohen-Jo-Daro civilizations. This civilization grew along the Sindhu or Indus river around 3300 BC.From the reminiscences it is evident that the people living here lead a peaceful life. There were not traces of wars or battles to be found. They had the most advanced currency system and a very steady and disciplined way of life. The highly advanced and efficient drainage system is indicative of significant role that cleanliness and hygiene played in their lives. The remains also project lifestyles that were free of superstitious customs like burying money with the dead.

It seems that the concepts of afterlife never existed among them. There were huge granaries built for storing grains. There were public baths and toilets. Most of the vessels and utensils were made of clay, and the precious stones found along with the remains indicate that they used to have a trade rapports with the neighboring places, since these stones were not of local origin. Sadly around 1900 BC this civilization came to an end. According to historians, a new race, the Aryans from Iran and its neighboring area migrated to this region. Thus a new era began. The Aryan invasion had its good and bad effects. Life styles changed, caste systems arose, rules and limitations came up. The Vedas were written during this period. Hinduism emerged as a major religion of India.
