India People
India can be described as a spiritual land. Religion plays an major part in every household. In almost all hindu homes, prayers and poojas are conducted frequently, and a lamp is lit in front of the idol atleast once a day. For the people of India, family values are very important. It is a male dominated society and the father or the husband is the head of the family. Any important decision is made only after discussion with the head of the family. They have high respect for their elders and look after them with utmost care .In ancient India, caste system played an important role in moulding the future of an individual. This system had originally been brought about for the steady functioning of the society. It was a concept put forth to divide labour. The society was divided into four groups, the Kshathriyas, the Brahmanas, the Vaishyas and the Shudras. The Kshathriyas mainly dealt with administration and ruling. The Rajas(the rulers) and his kins belonged to this group. The more educated and those with thorough knowledge of the vedas, and upanishads were the Brahmanas. They were often teachers to the kshathriyas and others. Then came the vaishyas, mainly merchants and business men, and the shudras who were supposed to be the lowest in the caste heirarchy and for the same reason, they were employed with jobs like cleaning, smithy, etc.In later years, powerful and influencial people started giving the caste system new and filthy meanings. They manipulated the system to oppress the poor and the helpless for their own vested interests. Opression lead to revolts and difference of opinions even among those who belonged to the powerful groups, which lead to total eradication of discrimination in the name of caste. Today, government of India gives special consideration for people who were once oppressed in the name of caste.
In olden times, women were often confined to the four walls of their homes. They were not allowed freedom of education and were not allowed participation in any ventures. Today the situation has changed to a large extend. Today, women have started participating in all walks of life, and a family is run by both men and women. Thus all through the years, India has been evolving and progressing with the backing of its wonderful culture and tradition.
